Silver Jambiya Dagger - Mecca Style - 0470

A classical Arabic Jambiya dagger of the ‘Mecca’ style with the “U” shaped scabbard. This style is spread in the central North and west parts of Arabia but also found in other places all over the peninsula. Both the scabbard and the hilt are silver. The interesting part of this Jambiya is the pommel. It is shaped in a styled mosque pattern and tradition is that this pattern is after the big mosque of Mecca. The scabbard is “U” shaped made from heavy silver, engraved and pierced and had four ring attachments for the belt (one now missing). The back of the scabbard is covered with leather bound to the metal with leather strips. |
