The Kastane is the national sword of Sri-Lanka. It is characterized by its short curved blade, usually of mediocre quality and highly decorative hilt and scabbard. Here we have a good early example, early to mid 18 C. with an 18 inches steel blade, inlaid with brass inserts. All hilt parts are of great decorative: The grip is finely carved from dark horn with a monster styled pommel. The monster styled quillons, the D guard and the langet all beautifully executed in steel with brass inserts. Total length 23 inches. Very good condition to age. Good age patina on the grip with age losses. The brass inserts of the grip are missing. No scabbard. An unusually early decorative piece at a very attractive price.
