Unusual and Rare Knife / Axe of the Mangbetu People, Africa - 11698

This short heavy knife / axe is used by the Mangbetu people from Central Africa, early mid 20 C. It is a rare form and not so common as the other Mangbetu axes. The blade is short, single edge, 7 inches long. It is very well forged and retains the original blackened area in its center. The handle is hardwood and pierced. Total length 15 inches. Very good condition. Minor wood chips on the handle.
